Just a quick post regarding herbs and home stuff. I posted another lengthier post earlier today if you would like to check that out by scrolling down as well.
Check out this herbal tea (tisane)! It's from a company called Cha Tale in the UK. They have some of the best tasting herbal teas I have had so far and I drink a lot of tea! I'm not usually that fond of herbal teas. Mostly because when I drink tea I want to drink tea and have it TASTE like tea! Most herbals aren't that tea-like. Another reason I wanted to post this herbal tisane is because of the Cassia Seeds you see on the bottom. They have a TON of health benefits including those for eye health and I have been focusing on eyes lately!
This next one is a combo of Pandan Leaves and Lemongrass. NOT by the company I mentioned above but I still wanted to blog about it because of all the benefits of Pandan Leaves more specifically regarding pain relief. I have an upcoming article and recipe for this tea over at The Raw Food World NEWS Site so be on the look out.
This past week hubby confirmed that the kidney stones he has gotten time and time again are directly linked to his Crohn's. After tests it was found that they were made up of calcium and sodium. It's not so much that he consumes those two things much it's that because of his Crohn's those two things don't break down like they should. So now he's focusing on lower calcium and lower sodium foods, however, he is a meat eater, and because of his Crohn's can't eat many raw fruits and veggies or even some of his cooked veggies he used to call favorites. If you are new to my blog - it's true - our house hold is a mixed diet household. This is becoming more and more common these days. On top of everything else he has to make sure that he's eating low fiber foods, too. A few random things we have found that meet all of those rules are spaghetti, rice crispies, and apple sauce. I will do occasional posts with additional findings.
Maybe your hubby could drink dandelion tea. It's apparently very good for the kidneys. I don't know about Crohn's but I just know it's really good for kidneys. Thanks for the infor on the other herbs, I always learn something!
ReplyDeleteI doubt he would drink that - I can't even get him to drink peppermint tea! LOL I have read that Mango and Mango Juice is good for them, too, and MIGHT be able to get him to drink that. I hope to have more herb info here too! Thanks for the encouragement!
DeleteI wish I could have fresh herbs here, just the dried bottled ones. Others have planted all kinds and they do seem to grow well - all that I've tried planting died. Sobssss!!!! No green fingers.
ReplyDeleteThe ones in this post are dried and/or bulk. But I know what you mean :) I wish I could grow more too!
DeleteI'm a huge lover of herbal teas (studying herbal medicine at the moment and discovering the magical powers of herbs <3). I didn't realise Pandan Leaves were great pain relievers, that's so good to know! I'll look out for your article at The Raw Food World News Site!
ReplyDeleteThanks! I hope to post more about herbs I do find here as well! One of main reasons I treasure my blog is it's a journey for whatever I am learning but also an archive!
DeleteI've never really taken a liking to herbal teas but I do know they have benefits and keep trying the odd one now and again, I must try harder! Sorry to hear about your husband's Crohn's :( Has he heard of the Specific Carbohydrate Diet? My son has been on this diet for nearly 10 years and his symptoms went almost immediately and he hasn't had a flare since. Basically it just means eliminating all grains and sugar (apart from honey) and starchy vegetables. It's why some of my recipes have SCD next to them.
ReplyDeleteI know what you mean about never really taking a liking to them. I'm the same way most of the time. I will have to look into that Specific Carb Diet - I would love to learn more about that. I'm glad that he's had positive results from it!!!!! I will take a look at your blog from the SCD next to them, too! THANKS a BUNCH!
DeleteI would combine the beneficial foods with something he likes therby masking the flavor of what he doesn't like. For example, add dandelion tea to some type of juice. Try it out yourself to ensure that the flavor is hidden.
ReplyDeleteThe more resistant he is to making changes naturally, the more dependent he will become to those drugs that suppress without addressing the cue of the disorder. There are quite a few ways he can eliminate his condition natural; however, he has to be open to change. In some ways my BF is similar, but he's becoming more open especially after seeing positive results with some of the things I've suggested,
Hi Opal! I just dropped you an email! So good to see you again! I knew you would get a kick out of the herb posts! I have other Essential Oil posts lately, too!
DeleteI finally got him to switch 'sugars'. He's now using Organic Raw Cane Sugar instead of store bought. Baby steps, I guess. He's been good about eliminating or at the very least cutting back on many things that bother him and his system. So that's good!
Great information on teas, thanks. I usually get more into hot herbal teas at my desk at work during the winter, so looking forward to trying new blends. Sorry about your hubby, that's a challenging situation. Hope things get better soon!
ReplyDeleteThey are PERFECT for Winter that is for sure!
DeleteI always wonder how vegans deal with Crohn's disease. I know the author A House in the Hills (http://ahouseinthehills.com/) has Crohns and does vegan (or mostly vegan I can't remember) but something doesn't sit right with some of these people eating what they hear would be better for them compared to what doctors say. So hard to figure out which is right!
ReplyDeleteWell my husband isn't vegan or even vegetarian but I think that is a great question. I know that many people have seen positive results on a high raw diet but that was said to be NOT good for my husband. So I don't know. I know what you mean, tho, it's hard to figure out.
DeleteHi Jen,
ReplyDeleteI love to explore herbal teas for various reasons.I am fortunate to have a wonderful herb shop in my community so I sometimes spend time there and learn from them. Thank you for sharing these two healing herbal teas with us at the Healthy Happy Green and Natural Party Blog Hop! I'm pinning and sharing. I hope your husband is able to find other nourishing foods that are compatible with his Crohn's Disease. I know that is challenging.
Local Herb and Shop owners are awesome! I learn so much from the lady I go to as well!
