Hail Merry Caramel Sea Salt Bites & Dyshidrotic Eczema

Hail Merry Caramel Sea Salt Bites & Dyshidrotic Eczema...I know...that's a WEIRD Blog Post Title.  Let me explain...First up - the YUMMY bit of this post!  This past weekend we took a day trip again and stopped by Erie to pick up my BIL and then drove to Buffalo to go to Pizza Plant.  (More on that in the next couple of days)  We were waiting for him to get out of work and the Whole Foods Co-Op is just a couple of blocks from his house and I ran in real quick to see if there was 'anything I couldn't live without' and came across a fairly good price on these Caramel Sea Salt Bites from Hail Merry and I was INSTANTLY a fan!

Now on to the Dyshidrotic Eczema part of this post.  NOT pleasant.  I didn't know what it was until I researched it and I'm pretty sure it's something I have had on again and off again in the spring and fall.  I learned a lot from THIS POST and other sources.  In short, it's either an allergy issue or a stress issue.  I guess it could be either with me but I'm wondering more about the foods...here is why...

It says to up your intake of Vitamin A Foods but after I looked at the list of vegan foods that were high in Vitamin A I realized I already eat a lot of those things.  Then it says to lower your intake of foods with nickel and/or cobalt in them and that is when I started thinking.  As far as the vegan foods with nickel in them the following are my favorite foods on that list and I tend to eat a lot of the following foods...

Black Tea, Nuts, Seeds, Soy, Chickpeas & other kinds of beans, Tomato, Corn, Spinach.  Honestly, with the exception of soy, the other foods make up about 80 percent of my diet these days.  I don't think there is a day that goes by that I don't have a nut, a seed, a tomato, corn, or beans.

BUT...why now?

That...I'm not sure.  Then I read that Baking Powder is on that list of things to watch out for on the nickel/cobalt list.  It also says that outbreaks could last 2 to 4 weeks.  Interesting.  It just so happens that I attempted Vegan Pancakes at home about 2 to 3 weeks ago and used Baking Powder in the recipe.  Could this have contributed?  Or was in the combo of everything?  Regardless, I'm going to try and lower my intake of some of my favorite foods now...ie...tomatoes, corn, beans, nuts, seeds...but...I will have to see what other kinds of things I can make my vegan cheesy sauces out of, too!  YIKES!

In the meantime...what am I going to do about self-care and healing my palms from the itching?  Witchazel.

  2. The caramel sea salt bites sound delicious! That's too bad there's so many foods to decrease, but if it ends up helping, that'll be great! Hopefully you'll find some good replacements for your vegan cheesy sauces!

    1. I think maybe moderation is the key. Sometimes I get on a kick and over do it within the same week with the leftovers if that makes sense LOL :)

  3. Oooh those bites sound incredible! The eczema sounds really uncomfortable and unpleasant, I'm sorry that you have to deal with it. I'm in a place where I need to use my diet and nutrition to heal and repair certain things so I think we'll be on this journey together! I hope that you find relief soon!

    1. I just have 2 small spots but they are itchy. I want to 'nip it in the bud' before it gets worse. I have seen some awful pics of people who have it really bad. I'm thankful I am not dealing with a bad case. You are right - it's an ongoing journey - I have found - so - sure! You and I can bounce ideas off each other. I would like that!

    1. My newest challenge is to try and come up with those sauces with so many omissions! THAT will be challenging!

  5. Yum on the bites, they sound awesome. Sorry on the eczema, that does not sound fun. I've noticed some odd dry skin issues the last week with our traveling where my skin will crack if I'm not using tons of lotion.

    1. The winter was rough on people with drier skin here. I had a little bit but not much - not like other people I know! Witch Hazel has worked well for my hand!

  6. Research candida overgrowth you might have some of that as well, since Dyshidrotic Eczema is linked t that also. For myself, I avoid grains and mainly eat whole foods. Occasionally, I do consume flour, but it's a condiment. Juicing and exercise is also helpful and enemas helped tremendously along with herbs that are specifically targeted to aiding/healing the liver.

    1. I wondered about that - I almost texted you about it! I have had luck with the Witch Hazel and I have been sipping on Nettles at night!

    2. I'd keep an eye on it, to see if it recurs with me I'd occasionally get flare-ups if I ate too much flower. Band-aid fixes helped, but ultimately I knew once I identified what it was, it was just that, to eradicate I eliminated the cause... with me it was flour. That was not easy to do, however, it was very informative and I learned a lot. As great as I felt before, I'm definitely on another level without the grains. What the Health was a great documentary it talks about it briefly I believe, but mainly how processed foods are promoted as healthy when studies seem to indicate the reverse, the links to health related diseases was also discussed. However, talking so candidly about a topic at times can bring about a lot of pushback. That was seen in the documentary as well. Also, I recently read Grain Belly and Grain Brain. When I read those books, recently, I'd been avoiding flour but my goodness did they provide an interesting perspective. A few months ago, my daughter took my whole food challenge. It was interesting hearing her thoughts after it was over. She's now avoided flour on her own and the little animal products she was consuming she's avoided them completely. That's wonderful that the itching has stopped.
