Article: Vegan Feathers for Crafting - from GreenUpgrader

Feathers are super hip right now. From jewelry to dream catchers, I'm seeing them all over the place lately! Unfortunately, real feathers are an animal product, and the fake ones that you can find are made from plastic. Recycled felt to the rescue!
It's easy as pie to make your very own vegan "feathers" out of felt to suit all of your crafty needs. You could also use scrap fabric to make your feathers. If you do that, you'll need some fabric glue and a paint brush in addition to the supplies below.
Supplies

• recycled felt in whatever colors you like
• fabric scissors

Directions

• Start by cutting your felt into a leaf shape. Make the leaf the same size as you want your finished feather to be.
• Next, use your scissors to texturize the edges of your feathers, like in the photo below. Start toward to skinnier end of the leaf and snip at a diagonal toward the center. You don't want to snip all the way to the middle - about 1/3 of the way through should do it.

• You can leave your feather like this, if you like the look, but I like to make the featheriness a little bit more obvious (see the photo at the top of the post). To accentuate your texture, use your scissors to ever-so-slightly widen the spaces where you've trimmed by snipping a teensy extra bit of felt.
• If you're using fabric scraps instead of felt, you need to keep that fabric from fraying. Grab your paint brush, carefully paint your feather with fabric glue, and let it dry overnight before you craft with it.

From here, you're ready to craft! If your feather needs an end, you can use thread to stitch a twig to the skinny side. For many projects, you can also use a needle and thread to sew the feather on to whatever you're working on. And, of course, you can always use plain ol' glue to attach your feather to your vegan craft project!
