Sweet & Heat Hoison Marinated Tofu

Last night for dinner I had this plate of vegan food.  It was pretty fantastic if I do say so myself!  On the left you can see I had mixed veggies. Cauliflower, Broccoli, Carrots, topped with a slice of Daiya Cheddar.  I know that it appears I am using a lot of Daiya lately but some of the foods I've been posting have been from the past week and a half or so plus I am trying to use it before it 'turns'.  As for the right side of the plate...that is marinated tofu that I did on my stove top.

Some of the Instagram Followers I have were wondering what I marinated it with.  Well, the recipe is below but first I want to tell you the process I did with the tofu.  I cut a block of it in half, pressed it to get the liquid out, and then set it in a container and froze it.  The next day I took it out of the freezer, added the marinade and put it in the refrigerator for a day to marinate.  The next day I cut it up into cubes and threw it on the stove top until browned.  It turned out WONDERFUL.  Probably my personal BEST attempt at tofu yet!

    1. Thanks! I wish I was better at naming some of my dishes but I do want to include the main ingredients in the title if possible - but they tend to be a bit long winded that way! HAHA! The Sweet & Heat was the first thing that popped in my head. I was thinking 'sweet and sour' but that didn't totally cut it, ya know!?

  2. The marinated tofu looks intriguing - I haven't frozen tofu in ages - and I'm not sure I've ever marinated the frozen stuff. Looks good : )

    1. I'm trying a small amount with Spiedie Sauce (pronounced: Speedy) I hope to blog about that soon - it's a local favorite of my father's hometown :) I grilled Kabob's yesterday with it - VEGGIES - and they were awesome - and I hope to pan fry a bit of tofu as a test later tonight :) Using the marinade (sauce)

  3. Looks great, I think I would have added something bright red. Perhaps tomatoes or red bell peppers if I had them on hand and removed the daiya for a 'lighter' take on what you prepared. I haven't had tofu in quite a while. Perhaps a few years ago? It's not something I have every eaten a lot. My daughter liked a tofu scramble, but I use cauliflower now and she really likes that.

    1. I was all out of red peppers but I bet that would be awesome! I bought some mini bells this weekend and they were awesomely sweet! There were more yellow and orange and less red but they are all yummy! I've been chompin' on them raw and grilled a few slices too!

Yup! Since I used the rest of the Daiya I had on hand I'll be getting away from it for a while now...I don't want to use too much or get dependent on it. I'm going to start making my own 'nut cheeses' again and there is a pineapple raw cheese I made a long time ago that I want to get back into :)

I don't really eat a lot of tofu either, actually. I think I have more of it the past year than I have in the prior 5! After this next post of the Spiedie Marinaded 'bit' I probably won't use Tofu for a while. I've been thinking about additional changes to my food intake again. Eventho the dietician I went to a few years ago (twice) told me I eat 'too many' veggies - I think I still need to up it...more-so my greens!!!! I'll be pushing myself to do more juices and smoothies VERY soon!

    1. TGIF...is RIGHT! It's Monday Morning and I'm ready for Friday already! LOL

Thanks for the feedback on the plate! I'm going to give Tofu a rest after my next post (this week) and turn to tempeh more, I think. I have been getting into that much more over the last year. Altho...I'm VERY pleased with the way this Tofu did turn out :)
