Yesterday I told you that I made 2 Vegan Richa Recipes from her Indian Kitchen Cookbook. This was the other one I made. It was the Dal Bukhara which is Black Gram Lentils in Tomato Sauce. I opted for 2 things in this recipe. The optional liquid smoke and the vegan cream (I used vegan sour cream). This made a HUGE batch! Enough for 2 dinners last night as sides and a giant stand alone meal for myself tonight. I LOVED both the Rajma and the Dal Bukhara from Vegan Richa!
Here's a closer look at the dish! YUM! Of course this was taken before I added the vegan sour cream! One other thing I should note is that I used about a cup less water than the recipe suggested because I wanted a thicker, creamier texture. I was pleased with my choices! Have you tried this recipe yet? Which recipes are your favorite if you do have the book? Mine was a little bit more orange in color because I used orange tomatoes instead of standard red ones.
And speaking of Christmas Gifts and Vegan Cookbooks here is another one that I was lucky enough to add to my collection...Deliciously ELLA Every Day!
First and foremost I wanted to grab one of Ella's books because I didn't have any of hers in my collection yet. Secondly, I comment on her blog and wanted a book to match. And finally, anything that says Quick and Easy Recipes for Gluten-Free Snacks, Packed Lunches, and Simple Meals that are Plant-Based, Dairy-Free, and low-to-no-hassle I'm game!
There are a LOT of recipes in this book and the photography is beautiful! I can't wait to jump in and see what I want to make first. So far - I'm thinking the Pesto Lima Bean dish is calling me the most!
Another topic I have been teasing at the last couple of days is something neat I experienced on Friday Night.
A group of us went to a local restaurant/bar in a nearby small town that was celebrating their annual Christmas Walk. Friends of ours lived within walking distance so we took a brisk speed walk back to their place but their parents lived just a few houses down and we've been hearing about this Old School Merry-Go-Round that they had and just HAD to see it!
It was inside a large garage with LOTS of other historical Merry-Go-Round items, old posters from county and state fairs, old pieces of art, dolls, wooden horses, historical items from Washington DC and other places, local and regional history, old video games, music memorabilia, cars, and much more!
It was pretty amazing to see all of this right in front of you and all at once.
His parents told us about how they started collecting everything, where they found the items, and how and who restored them.
Everything they had on display WORKED. It was REALLY neat!
We even got to ride the one Merry-Go-Round. This was the bigger of the two. There was another - smaller one that was decorated with Christmas Tree Ornaments that were issued to members of the government throughout history in or around Washington, DC.
Once everything was turned on and running we had the original music playing on the Merry-Go-Round, too!
It's certainly not something you get to see or do everyday - that's for sure!
It was very Old Timey Carnival Complete with freshly popped corn from an old machine - to boot. I didn't have any popcorn because I'm pretty sure there was butter on it but the whole atmosphere was something that really took you back in time!
Here is a picture of the smaller, older one and if you look real close to cover near the lights you can see the ornaments I described above. There was lots of art work and promotional posters throughout the garage. I'm sure I missed some things. It was that HUGE and I often found myself standing back and pausing in awe. Of course, as a vegetarian/vegan, I'm not a fan of circuses (because of the use/abuse of animals) but many of these Merry-Go-Rounds were from a time where we didn't understand things we do now. Many of the old state parks were just that - parks - with the possibility of mechanical rides such as these old school Merry-Go-Rounds. It was interesting to see history come alive.
And because I'm a HUGE fan of music of all types and the history behind them - I appreciated the historical value of their collection. It was a bit too cold that night or we would have had the opportunity to see this musical machine in action, too!
I've seen episodes of American Pickers and/or Pawn Stars and those guys would have went NUTS for this stuff!
Funny thing is - not many people realize something like this exists - tucked away - in a garage in our area. It's a hidden, historical gem.
Have you ever ridden on a Merry-Go-Round? What are your memories of them? I'd love to hear about it in comments!

This Is What Happens When I'm Too Lazy To Eat Vegetable Curry...
Yesterday I posted a recipe I used for 'whatever you have in your kitchen' Curry and I had a lot of leftovers but the problem I was having was I wanted something super simple to digest and I was being lazy and didn't want to be a slob and get the huge broccoli chunks all over me. So I decided to put it in my blender and pulse and this was the outcome. I know it probably doesn't look pretty to some people but it sure was yummy! I added a little bit more smoked paprika and turmeric powder! Yummers!
I figured I would also take this time to do a bit of catching up on what I have been watching, listening to, reading, writing, etc...
What I'm Watching...
Or...should I say...what I watched? Yup! I binged watched it and I'm NOT sorry! I can't wait for season 3
As for music I always have an eclectic mix. Lately, it's been flashing back to Fleetwood Mac and Tom Petty while squeezing in some 90's Billy Joel and Guns N Roses. Not to mention some random show tunes now and again! Oh yeah...and some Reggae to lift my mood!
As far as what I'm reading and writing...well...
I write commercials for a living (among other things) so I'm always writing something. But lately, I have gotten back into writing short poems. I haven't done this in many years.
As for reading, I'm not like most people...I don't ready books cover to cover. I read collections of poetry, magazines, cookbooks, and such.
I have so many eBooks that I have been thumbing thru that there are too many to remember but some of them off the top of my head are...

Quick Fair Re-Cap
I know it's been a while. A lot has been going on. And I mean A LOT. Pretty much every part of our lives have been going thru changes the last several months. Personal, Family, Work, Volunteer, Community, Health, Relationships, etc. Instead on rambling on and on about it I figured it was best just to jump in on current event rather to rehash things from the last weeks and months.
What I will re-cap QUICKLY for you in that we are past fair week...which ended up being more like fair month OR fair summer. There was a LOT of preparation in this years county fair. There ALWAYS is but this year seemed to be even more so.
Here are photos of 2 of the concerts from this years fair. This first photo is from last year but this year it was more of the same from the Morning Show!
Tuesday Night - Neal McCoy was LIVE in concert at the Warren County Fair in Pittsfield, PA. It's was a HECK of a show! I've said it before and I'm sure I will say it again...I'm not the biggest country music fan...but I do know what I like and I've always liked Neal McCoy. He was actually the first performer I saw LIVE when I was in High School...and here he is 22 or so years later back at our fairgrounds! He's a wonderful individual and a HELL of a performer!
He performed to a jam-packed 'house' (building). He spent most of the show IN the crowd! I think it's fair to say that Warren County will ALWAYS love Neal McCoy!
Wednesday Night - The Pam Tillis Trio performed to another FULL HOUSE! It was Pam Tillis with 2 other females on stage with their acoustic instruments and vocals. This show was unique and more intimate than her full band.
I originally was going to do a longer post but we are under severe weather warning at the moment so I might do another post later today or tomorrow.
I have a lot to share but haven't had a lot of time to actually POST and for that I am truly sorry! Don't give up on me! I'm back but I'm still trying to get fully back in the saddle so to speak!

Sleep & Music
The last couple of weeks I have been experimenting with different sleeping habits. One in particular was the addition of listening to music while I sleep.
I have found that this is helping me get to sleep, get better sleep, and when I wake up - it seems like I can get back to sleep quicker.
I guess in a way I'm pairing this with meditation at the end of the day, too. So I'm able to achieve 2 daily goals with 1 action.
Where am I finding 8-hours of Meditative Sleep Music? YouTube. You can even type in what kind of sleep music. HERE I typed in for Fibromyalgia.

Home Free (Vocal Band) Concert Last Month!
On Wednesday, August 10th I experienced one of the BEST concerts I have ever been to in my life! Home Free - a vocal band - was at our Warren County Fair and if you aren't familiar with them - take 5 minutes or 5 hours and YouTube them!!!!! You will THANK ME. Here is a photo of myself with the guys! They were AWESOME! Everything they do is with their voices! They are an a cappella group featuring a beat boxer!
They were a FUN group of guys and FUNNY! Tim Foust has one of the LOWEST voices I have ever heard in my life!
I swiped this from the Home Free InstaGram. They posted it the morning after their contest on our fair grounds! What I thought was VERY FUNNY was that I WROTE "Butts" on this pal! If you look thru their IG you will see other literal posts of words and poses LOL!
They are CERTAINLY a group I would LOVE to see again! I MAY have an opportunity in a couple of months but I'm not sure if my schedule will work for the trip or not. I've volunteered in some way, shape, or form with the entertainment at the fair for about 17 years now and I know this is the BEST feedback of any group or band we have had there since I have been involved. The building was PACKED and everyone from 2 to 92 years old seemed to attend!

Collin Raye Concert at the Warren County Fair
This week I will be posting about the concerts that took place at this years Warren County Fair!
The Tuesday of Fair was Collin Raye. His stop at our fair was part of his BIG 25 Tour. To see his hits and other discography CLICK HERE.
I may not be the biggest country music fan but I appreciate musicians and artists from all genres.
I worked mostly backstage that night and didn't see each song that was performed but it was a FUN night that is for sure! Here is a photo of him and I. He was super nice!
Here is another photo from the one side of the stage. The sound was great in the building that night.
He sang a lot of his hits and some tribute and cover songs from some of the artists he held dear such as Glenn Frey and Merle Haggard.
Many weddings that took place in the 90s featured one or more of Collin Raye's songs that is for sure.
He's a great storyteller as well! A very pleasant guy with an interesting stage presence.
Below is one of the many videos of his.

A Few Days Off, MWM, Inductees
I took a few days off from work! I needed it! I was getting burned out! Hubby and I were able to spend some time on the road with our Abarth! I slacked on photos except for when it came to Monday when we went to Cleveland. More on that later in this post and a near future post.
We were able to visit Mad Mex in Erie on the way home and I opted for the Veggie Enchilada which was easily veganized by asking for vegan cheese and sour cream! It was so YUMMY but not photo friendly so sorry for teasing you! Here's a snapshot of the guacamole, tho! I'm LOVING the GREEN theme in this photo! I want those green plates, too! 'Just sayin".
While in Erie we stopped by the Whole Foods Co-Op. It's been a while since my last visit. And I had to restrain myself because I didn't want to spend a lot of money this trip. I was very pleased with the visit because they are consistently upgrading EVERYTHING in the store! I'm so happy they are doing so well! I know someone who is reading this who used to live in Erie and who's cat loves Daiya would be thrilled to see the upgrades! (hint, hint!)
I'm also happy to see so many new products there! I grabbed Daiya Slices because they were $1.20 cheaper than Chao Slices. I still haven't seen the Daiya Gouda and it's driving me CRAZY! Since finding the last Jackfruit product I posted about I am compelled to buy additional Jackfruit products when I see them. They had a growing Upton Naturals section and I decided to grab the Jackfruit BBQ. I noticed Victoria Vegan has new labels and new offerings, too! When I saw they have an Alfredo Artichoke I couldn't resist! That was my splurge as VV is quite expensive. You can see the Earth Balance in the right hand corner, too! Hubby has now converted to EB. He really likes it! No...is isn't veg and he never will be but EB he actually likes. So now it's the only 'butter' found in our (mixed diet) frig. The Whole Foods Co-Op is the only place I'm able to actually pick up issues of VegNews, too, so I jumped on it.
One of these days I will actually subscribe! Of course I have been saying that for YEARS!
Here is my first MWM Post of the Week! Remember to keep reading and link up below to participate! You can link up as much as you want thru Tuesday! It can be anything VEGAN...product reviews, grocery store visits, online purchases, produce stands and farmers market hauls, recipes, etc! LINK UP at the bottom of this post!
I won't post photos in this post from our Monday trip to the RnR HoF but it will be very soon!
YUP! We dropped by the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame! Just days before this years induction. They were getting ready for the festivities! More on that in a future post!
It's LINK UP Time!!!! We would LOVE for you to join us during this week's MWM (MidWeek Munchies!)

What I'm...
Today's post will be a mish mash of tidbits. Before I get started I must say that the logo above isn't mine but I was drawn to it. I then went directly to the source which was The Mobility Hub of Africa. It's a project by Art Moves Africa promoting just about everything Arts and Culture related.
Now...on to what I have been doing and a whole lot more...
First off I will start by saying I attended an 8th Grade Career Day yesterday and that was interesting. I was around 8th graders all day and some of them that stopped by our table were able to record and play back so they could hear what they would or could sound like on the air. (If you are new to my site I should probably tell you that I work in radio full time). 3 of the attendees I was especially happy to see...hubby's cousin's daughter, a friend of ours' son, and a boy who has loved radio since he was 3 and has been in to tour the studios and has dropped by our live broadcast remotes often.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
What I'm Watching...
I have been enjoying a lot of memories from my childhood, teen, and college years on Hulu+ and Netflix as of late. I'm currently watching from the beginning A Different World. I remember watching each and every episode when I was younger. It's nice to re-watch them in the evenings when winding down. We don't have Cable, Dish, Local TV, etc...but we do subscribe to both of these streaming services! Do you? If so...what are you currently watching?
What I'm Drinking...
In addition to many 52 Teas I have been sipping I have been getting back into Simpson & Vail's Teas. I'm almost done with my stash of them, tho. I really like their MANY Black Tea offerings. I have also been trying to get into more herbals and you can read about a few of them over at The Sororitea Sisters Website.
Another thing I have been drinking is my morning smoothies! Last week one of my mini goals was to be more consistent and make one each morning Monday Thru Friday. I have been doing pretty good with this attempt with the except of yesterday while I attended the Career Day. Instead I grabbed one of the Bolthouse Farm's Multi-V Goodness bottles I found at a small local grocery store. I was surprised they had it. This was the first time I had tried this flavor and it was really tasty.
What I've Been Listening To...
I often listen to a slew of different types of music. I always find my way back to the 80s and 90s and over the past several months more specifically 90's Dance, New Wave, and Reggae music has been on that list, too.
What I've Been Thinking About For Fun...
Here's a card I did back in 2011! I can't believe it's been 4 years!!! But I have been trying to get back into paper crafting and mixed media once again. As you can see here I did some shading and blending with craft markers. I know I have better example of this somewhere.
And here's another one using the same digital stamp but with paper piecing. If you aren't into paper crafting and aren't familiar with the term paper piecing it's basically using the digital stamp on patterned paper and cutting it out and piecing it on top of the same image to make it more colorful and eye catching. Here are a few Halloween Themed Cards I made and the creator of the Digital Stamp is my ol' buddy Lindsay over at Lindsay's Stamp Stuff.
Be sure to check in TOMORROW I will be giving away a great prize from Garden of Life!
Happy Weekend!
Vegan MoFo ~ Something Blue
I'm digging thru the archives for this one! Blueberry Hemp Smoothie!
I may be cheating with this since it's not a NEW recipes it's one that I have used before. Forgive me!
2 one-inch chunks of frozen banana
1 C Blueberries
2 T Hemp Seeds/Hemp Hearts
1 C Water
1 Handful of Spinach
1 Date
I have been so jazzed about Vegan MoFo this year that I have nearly forgotten to post a few other things I wanted to share with you so here it goes! First...a random Kombucha! I know Vegan Peace will appreciate this! I have been wanting to make my own but still haven't pulled the trigger on it yet. I'm still pretty nervous! But I learned a lot from YouTube and my buddy Opal about making your own...I just haven't! I know...I know...stop procrastinating! Just DO IT! One of these days I will...just not today! I will say I was surprised at how tasty this bottled flavored Kombucha was! Raspberry and Lemon! It was about 60/40 Raspberry/Lemon flavor ratio! It had that lightly carbonated tingle but wasn't vinegary...the last bottled Kombucha I had was like vinegar.
Another thing I wanted to share in this post is what we did this past weekend. It was a nice 3-day weekend! We went camping and met up with some people on the board that hubby belongs to as well as being able to see some friends we haven't seen in about a year. It was actually former band mates and friends! It was FUN and I would love to do it again! We hope to meet up with our buddies Tom and Nicole for dinner in a month or more (before the snow starts flying again). I can't believe it's that time of year again...time to wonder when the snow is going to start in again...sigh...
Here's a pic of the band. Well, it's a reunion photo of sorts since they no longer play on a regular basis, I guess.
In case you are new to my blog...my husband's former band(s) were of the Bluegrass variety.
The 5 you see here made up the band Northern Railroad Bluegrass. My husband is on the far right...then there is his uncle, our buddy Joel on base in the middle, then Tom on Mandolin with the white T-Shirt, and Bud on the far left with the other guitar!
I took some video but don't know if it came out or not. It was fun and I hope they get together again soon! I miss the music and friendship!
Colt Ford Opens For Jake Owen
Last Saturday we made a last minute decision to go to the Crawford County Fair to meet up with a booking agent that hubby works with for entertainment for our fair. When we got there we got a tour of their (newer) facilities and were backstage during load in for Jake Owen with opener Colt Ford. Right away I noticed TWO of these semi-trucks with Jake's tour graphics on them! Of course I had to snap a pic - moreso because of the 'Love Bus' you see behind me.
I know I keep saying I'm not much of a country fan. Sometimes I like certain songs but I can't really say I'm a huge fan overall. It's just that these opportunities keep popping up and with everything we do with work and volunteering for our fair I'm surrounded by country music. (In case you didn't know I'm in radio and one of our stations is a country station). I really like seeing the functionality of everything behind the scenes. I like the stage area, the light, the sound...I guess that goes back to my theatre days in high school. Not only was I in theatre but I was with the stage crew, too!
So anyways...this concert was Jake Owen with opener Colt Ford. It was entertaining. Colt Ford does like rap-country mix. More on that in a bit.
We had Jake at our fair about 4 years ago and he's a super nice guy and has only grown since then.
When Colt opened for Jake he really got the crowd going but there was over 40 minutes in between him and Jake which was excessive.
As you can see in these pics and videos the stage shows were very different...hence the 40 minute down time.
Colt Ford covered Eminem's Lose Yourself from 8-Mile. That was pretty cool.
This short clip shows the Beach Ball Party going on! From a sponsor standpoint this was a great way to get the sponsors name out there which was Toyota.
And JUST before my phone died...I got this short clip of Jake's stage and light show!
Confederate Railroad Concert
The last of the 4 concerts that took place during Warren County Fair Week was on Saturday and the band that performed was Confederate Railroad.
The band arrived earlier that day and I will say they were the most laid back bunch of guys I've come across in a while.
Rusty - who is pictured 2nd to the left - was joking around with Becki and I. Becki was one of the few that took care of all of the food and beverage for the bands that week.
And the guy in the center was the leader of the band and he had a few lengthy conversations with my husband back stage, too.
The one in the faded blue jeans on the far left used to be one of the founding members of Sawyer Brown and he ended up buying Dale's uncle's Steel from him that day.
In the 2nd photo you will see a guy with long grey hair and a maroon jersey on he used to play with Dr. Hook. The crowd really enjoyed their show and I've been told that attendance was UP not only for most of the days of fair week but the entire week of fair!
Cassadee Pope Concert
The 3rd concert at this years Warren County Fair was the Cassadee Pope Concert.
Here's a photo of Cassadee with my father who helped us back stage prior to the concert.
She put on a great show and really got the crowd into it. She wore HUGE heels and later I found out she wasn't much taller than I am. I'm not quite 5'2".
She was very nice and had a cute personality.
There were a few girls in their early 20s that must travel around from concert to concert. They brought her gifts and had an extended meet and greet back stage with her.
One of the many things I did that evening was sell her merchandise.
Here are the 3 T-Shirts they had available for purchase and then she was selling CDs and Wrist Bands both of which we sold out of.
After the concert she come out front and signed autographs and took photos with the concert goers which was really nice.
Cassadee Pope was also on The Voice.
I have one more concert to blog about and that is Confederate Railroad but I don't have very many or any photos from that night really and the official Meet N Greets are up yet.
This past weekend hubby and I made a last minute decision to go to the Crawford County Fair which I will also be blogging about in the near future.
Question of the Day - What was the last concert you saw?
Which performer would you like to see live?
I always wanted to see The Monkees but since Davy Jones passed away I doubt it will be the same. Of course I would have LOVED to see John Lennon on stage as well as Bob Marley so if I could bring 2 performers back it would be them.
I would love to see Bon Jovi as well as Lenny Kravitz. I doubt I could afford a Bon Jovi show from what I have heard! Eeeek!
Here's a photo of Cassadee with my father who helped us back stage prior to the concert.
She put on a great show and really got the crowd into it. She wore HUGE heels and later I found out she wasn't much taller than I am. I'm not quite 5'2".
She was very nice and had a cute personality.
There were a few girls in their early 20s that must travel around from concert to concert. They brought her gifts and had an extended meet and greet back stage with her.
One of the many things I did that evening was sell her merchandise.
Here are the 3 T-Shirts they had available for purchase and then she was selling CDs and Wrist Bands both of which we sold out of.
After the concert she come out front and signed autographs and took photos with the concert goers which was really nice.
Cassadee Pope was also on The Voice.
I have one more concert to blog about and that is Confederate Railroad but I don't have very many or any photos from that night really and the official Meet N Greets are up yet.
This past weekend hubby and I made a last minute decision to go to the Crawford County Fair which I will also be blogging about in the near future.
The Bellamy Brothers Concert
Wednesday of last week during the Warren County Fair the featured band to perform was...The Bellamy Brothers!
I helped with the flow of the Meet N Greets prior to the concert and then helped with various things during the show so I didn't get to see much of their performance but the crowd LOVED them! The 'house' was PACKED the whole time!
Here's a shot from the audience that a friend of mine took.
I also helped sell merchandise towards the end of the show.
New this year - is the front of the stage. The wood is actually 29 years old and reused/repurposed from the Motor Sports Arena and was sanded and treated and it looks amazing! The Cornplanter Stage Sign is new this year, too!
After the show the 'brothers' stopped over at the Entertainment Office (a new addition during last years fair) and signed the wall and a few other promotional signs we will be hanging on the walls in the coming weeks.
These guys sure were busy prior to visiting our county fair! In about a week they traveled from Switzerland to Germany to Denmark to Norway and then to Pennsylvania.
I will be posting at least one more time today so be on the look out for that. I have 2 more concerts to report on and will post in between other My Blissful Journey posts, too!
The Swon Brothers Concert
I have 4 concerts to talk about from The Warren County Fair from last week and I have had a lot of people ask me for other specific content on my blog here including more recipes and more product reviews and suggestions. I aim to please and will be intertwining them from here on out. AND I am waiting for some more photos to become available so that might work out for the better. Anyhow...The Swon Brothers Concert!
You may (or may not) know that The Swon Brothers were one of the finalists on The Voice not too long ago. I have to admit I don't watch the show but I have heard a lot about it.
What I can tell you first hand is that these guys are TOP NOTCH! They are incredible nice and sweet and polite but fun and extremely talented all at the same time. After I met them and watched their live show I can now say I'm a fan of theirs.
They did all sorts of music! They did some of their own music but also did some great covers including some from Tom Petty, The Eagles, Doobie Brothers, Kansas, and many more! They were complete crowd pleasers, too! They threw out freebies to the fans, ran all the way to the back bleachers to meet and greet those in the way back, and they were there until to the bitter end signing each persons item after the show!
I honestly can't say enough great things about these guys! They are fabulous! This is a photo of them with my father. Both my father and sister helped out that day. The Swon Brothers did a special Meet & Greet for a select few prior to their show and my Dad and Sister helped with organization and flow...along side one of the fair board directors, too!
Here's a photo of the brothers with the sisters! Yup! That's my sister Megan. And me...with my old station shirt on...can you believe I've been wearing that shirt for 16 years now? LOL
