Vegan Bowl Attack, Vegan Blender Recipes, Vegan Curry, & Random Oddity!

I've had the sniffles over the last couple of days which is odd for me.  It doesn't really feel like a head cold but I have never been one to have sinus issues so I don't know what the difference in how I feel would be if it were sinus issues.  It's not bad, really, it's just different.

Here is one of the cookbooks I purchased recently and the more I thumb thru it the more excited I am about it!  I need more bowls in my life and this book has some great ideas!  Plus, Jackie, over at Vegan Yack Attack is the author!

I know you aren't supposed to judge a book by its cover but I have to say this one really drew me in!  Do you have this book?  If so - what are some of your favorites from it?

Earlier this week I wanted some sort of Broccoli Soup based on what I already had on hand so here is what I made all in a blender:

1 C Cashews
1 Can Chickpeas
4 T Nutritional Yeast
1 T Mild Miso
1 T Lemon Juice
3 T Minced Garlic
1 Carrot
1 Celery Stalk
2 C Water
3 C Broccoli
Sea Salt, Smoked Paprika, Nutmeg to taste

After our trip to Taste of India last weekend I was hungry for more curry type dishes so I threw this dish together - the cheaters way:

1 Can Garlic/Roasted Tomatoes with liquid
1 Can Chickpeas
1 Small Onion
1 Frozen Minced Ginger Cube
2 Cloves Garlic, Minced
2 t Garam Masala
1 t Curry Powder
1 Can Lite Coconut Milk
Black Sea Salt, Lemon Juice, Grapeseed Oil*
*if and as needed*

Last night I needed a snack and didn't really want to think about it so I grabbed some corn chips and made this Vegan Cheese Sauce:

1 C Cashews
Small Handful Nutritional Yeast
1 T Mild Miso
1 T Minced Garlic
1 t Onion Powder
1 T Lemon Juice
5 T Water

Nutmeg, Smoked Paprika, Black Sea Salt to taste

I stumbled across this lil guy while walking around downtown the other day.  He was standing all by himself in between a lamp post and trash can.  Upon further inspection, I noticed it was Rodney Dangerfield.

I think originally he was supposed to talk and move but either he didn't have batteries in him or he was broken.  Regardless, seeing this, where I saw it, was random yet comical, and much needed that day!

There are antiques and oddity shops nearby so I don't know if the one store owner decided to put this there to make people stop OR if someone thought it was broken and wanted to dispose of it.  Regardless, it's not something you see every day so I had to take a photo!

    1. Thanks so much! My blender has been my BEST FRIEND lately LOL! Even more than usual! The only other thing I wanted to add to the Broccoli Soup but didn't have any on hand was potatoes!

  2. Do you think it might be something you ate? That's causing the issue? I know if I eat anything with flour, I'll experience nasal congestion, so I tend to avoid that. Well, we don't eat too much flour anyway. However, if I grind the wheat berries myself, there is no issues.

I occasionally eat food bowls. I made one last week and I think I posted about it on my FB page. My daughter told me I should start sharing what we eat there since we're whole foods plant based lifestyle and I have started doing that. It has received a lot of interest from those I'm linked to over there.

    1. I'm not sure if it was something I ate...I don't think so...but...could be...I haven't had that issues before that I know of (other than dairy when I was lacto-ovo caused digestion issues)

I haven't been on FB in sooooo long! I just opened a new Instagram today, actually...lost track of my old account...sigh...

    2. The way you worded that made me think of the reaction I had to flour years ago. At times, things we might not have had an issue with can cause problems. These days I avoid it completely. My daughter and I did make gluten free/sugar free chocolate chip cookies. They taste just like the traditional cookie without the flour or white sugar. I created my own recipe, they're a hit.

Today, I also received a book about liver and gall bladder cleansing. I've done them both before. I cannot wait to dig into the book. I'll do that later with a cup of herbal tea. I'm still unsure of what blend I'll make. As you know I buy my herbs in bulk.

    3. VERY true! Could be! If it happens again I will certainly look into that!

  3. I have only made two recipes from Vegan Bowl Attack - the Deconstructed Cabbage Rolls and the Kimchi Bowls with Red Curry Almond Sauce. The kimchi bowls are basically the only one in the book that fit the usual "bowl" format - grain, bean, veg, sauce (that I can remember) and I have trouble diving in to other recipes because of that. They *seem* like so much work!

The cabbage roll bowl was SO GOOD though, and pretty easy. I did find I would need more of the filling to make 4 servings, though.

    1. Good to know! I'm sure I will start with an idea and tweak it based on several factors :)

  4. I wonder whoever thought 'yes, the world needs a battery powered Rodney Dangerfield'?! That is odd indeed. I love the look of the broccoli soup, very warming for winter.

  5. My girl loves vegan curry - long beans, ladies fingers, potatoes, brinjal and tofu puffs. I like bean curd sticks in it too but she is not that fond of those, dunno why.

  6. Jennifer, i wish you lived near me - I'd be borrowing your books, I am trying not to buy anymore, unless I really really want them. Hope your feeling better, its snowing here non-stop. The UK has come to a standstill as the roads are unsafe, so I am home in the warm

  7. I've had that cookbook in my hands because it looked so beautiful and the recipes sounded amazing but I basically decided that I can't get any more cookbooks until I start using the ones I have more often. I can't wait to see what you make from it! The broccoli soup sounds so good! Definitely would be perfect on this disgusting day we are having today.

  8. I have Vegan Bowl Attack, and it is a lot of fun. I've made quite a few yummy things from it. I really like the mac and cheese. There was also some sort of orange noodle dish that comes to mind.
