Yesterday my sister had a Norwex Party at her house. She sent me a text message earlier last week that she was going to make a vegan taco dip and asked me a few questions because she was going to use our Wildtree Taco Blend for it. My sister isn't vegetarian let alone vegan but she enjoys trying the foods - and if you are a reader of my blog for a while - you may remember she and I went to the WNY VegFest in August and had a BLAST! Anyway...when I got to her house yesterday - before the party - not only did she make the taco dip vegan - she made this cold bean salad and it was awesome! With this she used Frozen Corn, Canned Black Beans, 2 Avocados, 1 Tomato, Onion, and some Wildtree Garlic Galore.
Here's what the Vegan Taco Dip looked like! And here's what she used for this recipe...both of these dishes made HUGE batches...enough for a Vegan Potluck!
1/2 container of Vegan Sour Cream
1 container of Vegan Cream Cheese
10-ounces Salsa
3 T Wildtree Taco Blend
(these ingredients mixed well)
Next layer...
Shredded Lettuce to cover
Tomato
Sliced Olives to cover
Daiya Cheese - Sprinkled on top
My sister really did spoil me yesterday! I had a fun time! The best part...she didn't tell anyone the dips were vegan...and no one asked! Everyone loved them! The only thing that wasn't vegan was she made the Wildtree Onion Dip with real Sour Cream (it also has dairy in the dry product) I just didn't eat that one item but the rest I did! She had a large raw veggie tray, too!
testing...
ReplyDeleteLove the colours! That's a nice idea - have a vegan theme for a gathering. I would love that if we're having one on a Friday, my no-meat-day.
ReplyDeleteMany people participate in No Meat Monday or Meatless Monday :) Friday is just as good! I think any day is a good day, really :) Looking forward to hearing more about your Friday No Meat Days :)
DeleteYum! Both of those sound really good. What a nice sister you have.
ReplyDeleteI'm very lucky! My sister is great! LOVE her!!! She did a great job with her party :)
DeleteSo Sweet! It's so wonderful to have great sisters! : )
ReplyDeleteI was really surprised when she bought the Vegan Zombie cookbook, too! Glad she went with me that day as well! My sister sure is something special :)
DeleteThat was really cool of her, you're lucky to have the support! I've found with my non family not saying it's vegan unless asked is a great way to go. My family is constantly making comments about " Oh... well that's vegan so and so could never eat that." Which is something considering they are all gardeners and have always eaten a decent amount of fruits and vegetables. The words "Vegan" and "Vegetarian" tend to get into some peoples heads and cause an unnecessary stigma I've found.
ReplyDeleteI totally know what you mean! A lot of people are like that! They won't even TRY the dishes if they know! That's why when I make things for events or pot lucks I make things I can eat - because there usually isn't anything I can eat that others make - and I try and make something simple - like a bean salad - or a rice dish - that others won't think about or question or look at sideways! LOL
DeleteI also agree with you about the vegetarian and vegan words leaving a 'bad taste in some people's mouths' with the negativity of lifestyle and stereotypes - that don't necessarily have to do with the actual food at hand...as to why people turn their nose up, sometimes...it's sad.
So awesome to have family support! My family has gotten a lot better too and my sister is actually vegan-curious. Both dishes look wonderful, yum!
ReplyDeleteEventho I know that my family members will never turn veg - I'm glad they understand the reasons I did. I remember when I was 15 my parents freaked. They thought I would be sick/un-healthy...I think it was that time...the myths of...etc. They also thought it was a phase and would last 2 weeks. Well, 20 years later I'm still going strong :)
DeletePlant STRONG :)
Hi Jennifer,
ReplyDeleteWow, what a great sister you have. It is so nice when friends and family members recognize your preferences and honor you with delicious vegan dishes that everyone can enjoy. Thank you so much for sharing your Norwex party goodies with us at the Healthy, Happy, Green and Natural Party Blog Hop. I appreciate it!
I'm very thankful for my sister! She's one cool girl! :) It's so refreshing when people don't question you - ya know - and just let you do what you do! I'll always be thankful for that with my family!
ReplyDeleteWhat fun and festive vegan fare you've shared with us at the Plant-based Potluck Party this week! Thank you for bringing a party to our party!
ReplyDeleteThe last several times I have met up with my sister have been extremely memorable for me - perhaps I am getting even more emotional about my family - not that I wasn't emotional before - but even more so now, I guess!
DeleteWhat a nice sister!!! My family isn't really into making me food :/ But they are supportive and encouraging about my veganism. Your sister is awesome.
ReplyDeleteThat taco dip looks SO GOOD! I want to make it right now.
Growing up I used to just eat what they were eating without the meat - I think that made it easier on my parents when I was like 15. Now - my sister likes to mess around in the kitchen - she's not veg - but she likes to try the veg dishes! SO that is cool :)
